50th Bill Rahm set for this weekend

BUCYRUS – The 50th Bill Rahm Invitational is set to kickoff at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Suburban Lanes. This year’s field consists of three past champions, three runners-up, and two rookies. Every entrant has at least one 300 game and most have multiple 800 series.

In the first match on the top half of the bracket Mike Hill (average 222) will battle Todd Spurlock (214). In the second match, 1998 champion Skip Heimlich (213) takes on 2001 runner-up Shawn Ridgeway (227). In a battle of champions, defending champion Keith Hildreth (229), second highest qualifying average, and our 2010 and 2013 champion Don McLaughlin (232) and top qualifier will tangle. In the final match on the top half of the bracket, Jim Ross (223) and Gertis Rittenberry (211) square off.

The first match in the bottom half of the bracket, 2012 runner-up Al Garvin (218) and Bill Dennison (215) meet. Next, Jack Book (219) will test rookie and Tournament Director Bill Hansen (211). In the third match, 2014 runner-up and Suburban Lanes manager Butch Pangallo (221) takes on Joel Butt (213). In the final match, Tim Dye (213) takes on our other rookie Rick Augenstein (213). Our alternate, who just missed the field with a fine 210 average, was Mike Flinchbaugh.

The schedule for the tournament is as follows; on opening day, the parade of champions is at 12:40 p.m. and bowling will commence at approximately 1 p.m.. There will be only one shift followed by a anniversary dinner for the field and past champions. On Sunday, and both Saturday and Sunday the following weekend, they will bowl double shifts starting at 1 p.m. Then the second shift will begin approximately 30 minutes later. On Saturday, Feb. 27, the finals will kickoff at 1 p.m.. If the undefeated bowler wins, we will crown the champion. If the bowler coming from loser’s bracket wins, there will be a one game roll-off.

The public is invited to come out and enjoy some great bowling and root for your favorite bowler. There will be complimentary programs with the tournament schedule and score sheets available to the public.
