Sweet Corn Festival comes to Millersport this weekend

MILLERSPORT — On Thursday, the Millersport United Methodist Church will be welcoming the Sweet Corn Festival Ride/Concession Workers to the Millersport Community by serving them a lasagna dinner at the New Lions Clubhouse at noon.

Millersport Senior Citizens

The Millersport Senior Citizens will not meet Friday due to the Sweet Corn Festival. The next meeting will be held at noon Sept. 18 in the Lions Clubhouse. The club will join with the Pleasantville club at noon Sept. 23 at the Rising Park Shelter House for a potluck lunch. Anyone who would like to carpool should meet at the Millersport Lions Clubhouse at 11:15 a.m.

Sweet Corn Festival 5K

The Millersport Lions Club in conjunction with the Sweet Corn Festival will hold its 26th annual 5K Run/Walk on Saturday. Pre-registration for the event is $18. Race day registration is $25 and begins at 7:15 a.m. with the race/run/walk taking off at 9 a.m. from the Sweet Corn Festival grounds. Entry forms are available for download at www.sweetcornfest.com or from Ken Keener at 740-246-6101. There will be trophies for the top three finishers both male and female in each of the 16 age groups as well as medals to the top three finishers. The proceeds will benefit the Millersport High School Cross Country Team and the Millersport High School Track Team.

Hebron Historical Society

The Hebron Historical Society will not be meeting on Monday, due to the Labor Day holiday, but will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Masonic Temple located behind Park National Bank. Sheila Amrine has a history game set up, so put on your thinking cap. Refreshments will follow a brief meeting.

The museum is located on National Road in the Village Shopping Center and is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Fridays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call 740-929-1545.

Grace Lutheran Church’s Tuesday Table

Grace Lutheran Church of Thornville will continue their involvement with Tuesday’s Table from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, at Firehouse Pizza. The Subway at Thornport will be the scheduled stop on Sept. 15. All are encouraged to come out for fellowship and a time to support the local businesses.

New Worship Schedule

On Sept. 13, Millersport United Methodist Church, 2310 Refugee Road, Millersport, will go to the new Sunday worship schedule. The traditional worship service will begin at 9 a.m. followed by fellowship time beginning at 10 a.m. The contemporary worship service will begin at 10:30 a.m.

KidsZone (children’s church) will be offered during both worship services following the Children’s Moment. Adult Sunday School classes are offered during both worship times.

The new middle school ministry for students in grades 5 through 8 will kick off at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 20. Pastor Jerry Wiles and Mary Lou will be leading this new ministry, which will meet on the first and third Sundays of each month.
