Cumberland Village Council Meeting

Cumberland Village Council met in regular session Feb. 1. Resolutions passed appropriating money to pay the village property taxes and Social Security and Medicare fees. A resolution concerning temporary appropriations for the village was revised to increase funding for telephone, electric and engineering fees from the sewer fund and was passed as well.

Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator Jeff Wiler and Village Administrator Dennis Unklesbay said the new plant was running well and they are exploring options for sludge removal. Village Solicitor Andy Warhola has sent out 14 letters to those who have yet to connect to the new sewer system and will be sending 26 letters to those who have taps, but need signed agreements with the village.

Unklesbay reported rumors of Cumberland Limestone blasting near the village’s water tower on Singer Road were false per the company. The Division of Land and Minerals also have no blasting permits on file for the area. Art Saylor has signed a road use agreement for Singer Road and the hole on the road was not as bad as originally thought.

Unklesbay had spoken with Cumberland Limestone about the possibility of them blasting near the village’s water tower on Singer Road. They assured him they would not be blasting near the village’s water tower. President of Council Tucker noted he had been in contact with the Division of Land and Minerals, and there have not been any blasting permits issued near Singer Road.

Council tabled filling the vacant council seat until the next meeting, which will be at 6:30 p.m. March 7 in the village building.
