Fire guts Buckeye Lake home

Staff Report

BUCKEYE LAKE - A fire destroyed a trailer home Friday afternoon, killing a family pet.

A trailer home in Buckeye Lake caught fire Feb. 12. All occupants of the home evacuated with no injuries.

Buckeye Lake Village Fire Department Capt. Toby Miller said the department received a call that there were flames showing from the home.

"When we arrived, the fire was venting outside of the house and everyone had made it outside of the building," he said.

A trailer home in Buckeye Lake caught fire Feb. 12. All occupants of the home evacuated with no injuries.

Miller said one person was treated for smoke inhalation as a precaution. No other occupants were injured, but bystanders did confirm that the family's dog was killed in the blaze.

The Hebron, Thurston-Walnut and Millersport fire departments provided mutual aid.

The fire took a while to extinguish, Miller said, because when older trailer homes catch fire, they burn, collapse in on themselves and continue burning.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
