Spencer Township Trustees Meeting

Spencer Township Trustees met April 18 and approved payment of $8,076.22 in bills. Completion of work and the closure of Singer Road was discussed along with a review of conditions of other roads in the township and forming a plan of action. A cemetery clean-up day was set for April 20 and trustees decided to obtain bids for a cemetery records computer and program. The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 16 at the township building on Mill Street.

Cumberland Village Council Meeting

Cumberland Village Council met recently and voted to join the Checkbook Online program, which will give residents access to village expenditures.

The town employee was set to clean a clogged drain on East Main Street. Two sink holes were discovered and filled in Village Park. A clogged ditch along Ohio 83 draining into Ohio 146 will be cleaned out. Council voted to hire Zemba Brothers for a ditching and catch basin project on Cambridge and Walnut streets. Installation of a bulk water station on Mill Street was tabled until the next meeting. Installation of security cameras at Village Park was tabled until more information was collected, it was approved to install new basketball backboards at the park.

A letter was received concerning deplorable conditions of a residence on North Cambridge Street. The matter was reported to the health department, which instructed the homeowner to clean up the property or it will be condemned. Letters were also sent to property owners of a collapsed barn on Carl Street and a falling down property on Main Street.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the village building on Mill Street.

Upcoming Events

•Cumberland Homemakers will meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Cumberland United Methodist Church. Bring a sack lunch. Washington is the state of study. Summer activity plans will be discussed. This is a make-up meeting from April.

•The SouthEastern Ohio Joint Solid Wast Management District recycling trailer will be available Tuesday and Wednesday at the township building on Mill Street. The trailer is for recyclable materials only and availability is subject to change.

•A blood drive will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Rix Mills Presbyterian Church. Each donor will receive a potted flower. For an appointment, call Carol at 740-674-4888.

•Valley Grange 1586 will meet at 1 p.m. May 23 at Theo’s in Cambridge.

•A Pampered Chef Party will be at 11 a.m. May 14 at the Cumberland Fire Department, with a of proceeds benefiting the department.

•Pickin’ in the Pavilion concerts will resume May 15.

•The Cumberland Alumni Banquet will be at 5:30 p.m. May 28 in the old high school building with registration at 5 p.m. Cost is $18 a person with reservations due by May 20.
