Gibsonburg's Sam deAnda had three hits Friday against St. Joseph Central Catholic. She also notched the win in the circle and hasn't allowed an earned run this season.

Gibsonburg pitcher Sam deAnda hasn’t allowed an earned run this season.

More importantly, deAnda hasn’t lost in eight starts after the visiting Golden Bears’ 15-0 victory Friday over St. Joseph Central Catholic in a non-conference matchup.

Gibsonburg (14-2) scored seven runs in the third inning, including a two-run triple from Shylee Schmeltz. The first four batters of the game reached base and scored, including a two-run home run from Aubrey Fleming.

“I like feeling it coming off the bat and the feeling when you know it’s gone,” Fleming said. “There are some powerful girls on the team. When somebody gets a hit or starts it off, the whole team rolls.”

DeAnda (8-0) allowed three hits Friday. She has allowed only an unearned run to Edison this season.

“Sam is a very consistent pitcher,” Golden Bears coach Marty Brown said. “Her being 8-0 comes with very good defense behind her.”

Second baseman Libby Henderson made the play of the game as she ranged all the way behind first base to field a grounder and threw a runner out from a very awkward position on the dirt.

Allie Teeple scored three runs and drove in two, Abby Cantrell scored twice and drove in a run and Schmeltz scored twice and added another RBI. Henderson drove in three and scored twice, and Marian Younker, Katy Roberts and Keely Snyder scored one run apiece.

DeAnda had three hits and scored two runs and Ashley Hasselbach added an RBI.

“We’re fortunate to have a consistent lineup from top to bottom,” Brown said. “We’ve made adjustments in the batting order weekly. I hope to have a set order by tournament time.”

SJCC's Callie Kelbley squares to bunt Friday.

Brooke Casperson had two of SJCC’s three hits from the leadoff spot.

“She only had two at-bats last season,” Crimson Streaks coach Sarrah Ottney said. “She jumped in as pitcher and started out in the five spot. She moved to leadoff about four games ago and she’s done a nice job.”

Casperson has been joined in the battery by classmate Callie Kelbley. Kelbley was 5-for-5, including a home run and two doubles and drove in six in SJCC’s 16-9 win over Hopewell-Loudon.
