Former student files lawsuit against Terra
FREMONT – A former Terra State Community College student has filed a lawsuit in federal court against the college, alleging that she was discriminated against because of a hearing disability.
The National Association of the Deaf issued a release Monday stating that Shirley Parrott-Corpus,a licensed practical nurse, filed the lawsuit. The NAD release did not state what court Parrott-Corpus had filed the lawsuit in.
In its release, NAD described Parrott-Corpus, who is hard of hearing, as an LPN with 15 years of experience who enrolled at Terra State to pursue an advanced nursing degree.
Parrott-Corpus was removed from the college’s LPN-to-RN program, with the nurse alleging she was given an ultimatum to prove she could hear or she would be removed.
NAD is representing Parrott-Corpus in her lawsuit, according to the group’s release, along with two civil rights law firms.
