Truck strikes pedestrians, vehicles at Wal-Mart

PORT CLINTON – The Ottawa County Sheriff's office is still investigating a Friday night crash at Wal-Mart where a motorist struck multiple pedestrians and several parked vehicles at the store.

According to the sheriff's office, Randy L. Brook drove his pickup truck into the parking lot Friday at 7:56 p.m. and struck Michael L. Nemire and his wife, Carol. as they were walking back to their vehicle.

Brook's truck also hit 10 other vehicles parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Brook may have suffered a medical condition that caused the crash, according to the sheriff's office. He was taken by Life Flight to St. Vincent's Mercy Medical Hospital in Toledo.

On Monday afternoon, Brook was listed in critical condition in the hospital's intensive care unit.

The Nemires were also taken by Life Flight to St. Vincent's and listed in stable condition immediately after the crash. Another pedestrian was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Officers from the Catawba Police Department were also dispatched to the crash scene, according to the sheriff's office.
