Twig No. 6 Updates

Baltimore Twig No. 6 hosed its annual spring auction March 29 at the Christ United Methodist Church and collected more than $1,000.

The auctioneers for the evening were Tony Caito and Cindi and Terry Roberts. The winners of two Longaberger baskets took the goody-filled baskets home. There were 33 people in attendance All the proceeds go to the Fairfield Medical Center.

On April 26, Fairfield Medical Center served a meal to all the Twigs in Fairfield County. Since 1950, the Baltimore Twig No. 6 has donated $155,867, which is made possible by all the work the members of the group have done over the years. The new officers for the Inter-Twig Council were introduced and installed.

The next meeting of the Baltimore Twig will be May 31 at the Thurston Methodist Church and will include the election of officers.

Garden Club Auction

Basil Garden Club hosted its annual plant auction May 16 at the VFW.

In addition to the live auction of garden plants conducted by Terry Roberts and Tony Cato, there was a Chinese auction and sales table of garden items. About 90 guests received complimentary refreshments and packages of seeds donated by the Baltimore Community Gardens and Livingston Seeds. It was the largest crowd the organization has had at the annual event.

As May 18 was a warmer sunny day, the 11 town containers were planted for the season. Community Container Co-Chairwomen Karleen Tope and Sharon Anderson planted a container with wave petunias, alyssum and a spike. This combination of annuals was so popular last year that they decided to plant the same plants this year although in different colors.

The next meeting of the Basil Garden Club will be at 7 p.m. June 20 at the Johnson Park Shelter House, 220 Summers Choice Drive, Baltimore. Master Gardener Mary Lewis will give the program on culinary herbs.

Basil Garden Club’s meetings are the third Monday of the month, and guests are welcome to attend the meetings/programs. For more information, call club President Trudy Keck at 740-862-8206.
