Talk About Oak Harbor: Lenten season activities begin

Linda Hartigan

Today is Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. Easter is March 27. That is also my brother’s birthday. It is an early Easter.

Friday is the first Fish Fry at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The support group for the school sponsors this event. Friday is also a granddaughter’s eighth birthday. She has a long weekend because of conferences on Friday and President’s Day on Monday. Because of the Friday holiday I will be with two granddaughters. We will be baking brownies for the fish fry. I think we are also making rice krispie treats. Those attending the dinner will know our desserts because they will be topped with conversation hearts.

I am also planning to bake chocolate chip cookies for the Valentine Tea at Riverview.

Chocolate chip cookies are the residents’ favorite cookie. Perhaps the girls will help me shape the cookies to look like hearts.

The Auxiliary of Riverview sponsors this Valentine Tea. It is usually the Sunday before Valentine’s Day. However, this year it happens to be on the actual date. Everyone is invited to attend the tea. It begins at 3 p.m. just after 2 p.m. church services in the chapel.

The tea is in the multi-purpose room.

For those who have never attended a tea at Riverview, there is a nice selection of cookies donated by the auxiliary members and others. Residents who wish to attend but need some help are assisted by the auxiliary. There is a lot of red attire and friendly conversation.

Audra’s shop offering classes in March

Audra’s Florals and The Wine Shop is offering some classes for Easter too. On March 9, attendees will create an Easter Bunny Mesh Wreath. This can be hung on the front door. On March 16, papier-mâché Easter eggs are scheduled for painting. Then March 23, all will create a fresh flower centerpiece that will still be lovely for the Sunday dinner.

Each of these Wednesday evening classes include two glasses of wine, a light snack and along with a completed crafted item. They are $35 each. To register, call the shop at 419-898-1155.
