Subway scores clean health inspection

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP - Portage Township's Subway store was one of 13 that received no violations during recent health inspections through the Ottawa County Health Department.

Assistant manager Amanda Alvarez said the shop has weekly and monthly cleaning lists that employees work through to keep the 106 SE Catawba Road shop in tip-top shape.

"Since it's been slower we're able to get more things done during our shifts," Alvarez said Monday. Many of the monthly items are done weekly with the extra time in the off-season.

  • Limestone Tavern, Oak Harbor
  • Dean's Drive Thru, Oak Harbor
  • Taco Bell, Oak Harbor
  • Black Swamp Market, Genoa
  • Tin Goose Diner, Portage Township
  • Pizza Hut, Oak Harbor
  • Port Clinton Fish Company, Port Clinton
  • Kay's Nutrition, Elmore

While thirteen restaurants had clean inspections reports, 14 county restaurants were cited for violations ranging from improper date-marking to cleaning mold built up on an ice machine.

North Coast Cigar, 2364 E. Sand Road, had residue buildup in the ice machine, according to the inspector's report.

The shop owner said they would empty the  ice machine and wash, rinse and sanitize the inside.

"I Scream on Your Left" at 445 Maple St. in Elmore also had buildup on the kitchen ice machine, according to their report by county inspectors.
