MARION - Local police are familiar with the man arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Mansfield last week.

Anthony R. Perry, 31, surrendered to law enforcement in Detroit on Monday, according to a Mansfield police press release.

The Mansfield Police Department responded to 466 Howard St. Friday night after receiving a 911 call about a shooting. Officers arrived to find Callel J.D. Valdry inside a vehicle, according to a police news release. Valdry was taken to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital for treatment, where he soon died from his injuries.

After a warrant was issued for Perry, Marion police used social media to warn residents about the man they've "past dealings" with, saying the man was thought to be armed.

Marion Municipal Court records show Perry pleaded no contest in two misdemeanor cases in 2013, both of which listed him as a Detroit resident. One of those cases was a first-degree misdemeanor conviction for assault, but Marion County Common Pleas records did not list any felony charges against Perry.

According to the release regarding Perry's arrest, "This incident was believed to be an isolated event and the investigation is ongoing, therefore no further information will be released at this time."

A first-degree felony warrant for murder was issued on Anthony R. Perry, 31, in connection with a Mansfield shooting.
