Utica man dies in U.S. 62 crash

Staff report

MONROE TOWNSHIP - A Utica man was killed Friday morning in a crash involving a semi truck on U.S. 62 east of Johnstown.

Charles McNabb, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which was reported around 9:20 a.m. on the 9500 block of U.S. 62 between Sportsman Club Road and Crouse-Willison Road.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Chris Carpenter said a 2006 Chevy Impala, driven by McNabb, was traveling west on U.S. 62 at a "high rate of speed" and had moved into the left lane to try and pass a vehicle. The Impala overcorrected to the right, then overcorrected to the left, striking an eastbound semi.

Carpenter said witnesses on the scene reported the Impala was traveling faster than the posted 55 mph speed limit on that portion of U.S. 62.

McNabb was ejected from his vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the semi, Kevin Cooper, 23, of Columbus. was not injured.
