CHILLICOTHE – The famous Budweiser Clydesdales will haul their hitch through Chillicothe and Williamsport next weekend.

The Clydesdales will drive through downtown at 5:30 p.m. May 30 to drop off cases of beer to businesses and bars that serve Budweiser. It is a tradition the hitch team carries through most of its stops, handler Manny Raber said.

“We do beer deliveries quite a bit. We hitch up, go into town and load up half a dozen cases of beer. We just pull up, deliver them and stop for pictures,” Raber said.

The tradition comes from the team’s appearance at the White House in April 1933, when they delivered a case of Budweiser to celebrate the repeal of prohibition of beer, according to the Budweiser website.

Another chance to interact with Clydesdales will come before the Chillicothe Paints game on May 31. The team will arrive at Memorial Stadium at 4:30 p.m. and will stay until the start of the game.

Before stopping in Chillicothe, the team will make an appearance in Williamsport during the Deercreek Dam Days parade May 29.

The visits are just some of hundreds of appearances the team of gentle giants will make in 2015.
