CHILLICOTHE - A woman is charged with escape after slipping out of a pair of handcuffs last month.

Candace Gray

The charge stems from a Jan. 30 incident where Ross County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home on Blain Highway, according to Lt. Mike Preston of the sheriff's office.

The caller reported Candace Gray, who had a warrant out for her arrest, was at the Blain Highway home. When deputies arrived at the home, they were not granted permission to enter and obtained a search warrant for the property.

When they searched the home, Gray, 25, was found hiding in the attic among some insulation. Preston said deputies also found drug paraphernalia and drug abuse instruments on Gray when she was apprehended.

Gray was handcuffed and placed in the backseat of a cruiser, but because of her size, Preston said she was able to slip one of her hands free from the restraints. Gray unlocked the door and got out of the cruiser, but did not get far. A deputy, who was standing with their back turned to the car, was able to catch her quickly and charged her with escape.
