County hoops teams had one impressive weekend. The Eagles, Royals and Bucks boys teams all came away with two wins over the weekend. Between Bucyrus, Colonel Crawford, Buckeye Central and the Wynford boys and girls, the county record was 8-5. Here are your top headlines from the weekend that was.

Crawford County Queens

The Buckeye Central Buckettes traveled to Wynford for their final regular season game against a fellow Crawford County school Saturday afternoon. A 64-48 victory made them 6-0 against Crawford County schools on the season.

The Buckettes did it with the deep ball. Haley Green scored a game-high 24 points, making six 3-point field goals, while Jenna Karl dropped four treys and had 20 points. Buckeye Central had the game in hand early, leading 32-14 after the first half.

Jade Stuckman continued her high scoring for the Royals as she led her team with 12 points. Tara Zinser added 11 and Sarah Ogden contributed with 10.

Miss 1,000

Bucyrus senior Kelci Simms earned a spot in Bucyrus lore forever. On Saturday, Simms and her Lady Redmen traveled to Ridgedale for a Northern 10 match. She needed 13 points to become just the fifth player in Bucyrus history, boys or girls, to score 1,000 points in a career.

At the 7:35 mark for the third quarter, Simms buried a free throw to eclipse the milestone. She then buried the second after a brief celebration and was taken out of the game. She sits at 1,001-career points with two more regular season games remaining. Her No. 23 jersey will be retired and hung on the wall of the Kish alongside those of Macey Sheerer, Natalie WInkelfoos, Chelsea Hawkins and Kelsee Rehm.

Simms scored 14 points and grabbed 11 boards in the 73-33 Bucyrus win. Alivia Lewis added 12 and Gabby Seibert tallied nine to highlight the 12 Lady Red scorers.

The streak continues

The Wynford Royals just keep winning. And as the tournament approaches, it is just what they want. Wynford had a double-weekend against Crestline and Seneca East. They came away with a 2-0 record out of the weekend in two very tough road games. The pair of wins pushed Wynford's winning streak to seven games.

On Friday, the Royals faced a feisty Crestline squad. The Bulldogs took a lead into the half and trailed by just three after the third. But Wynford’s Tyler Glowaski gave the Royals new energy in the fourth, scoring nine of his 11 points to help the Royals pull away with a 65-50 win. Alex Crall finished with 18 points and Braxton Tea chipped in with 13. Crall and Tea combined for eight 3-pointers, four apiece. Nate Sparks posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.

Saturday night was a bit closer at Seneca East. Again the Royals trailed heading into halftime, but were able to outscore the Tigers by six in the second half to come away with a 58-53 victory. Crall led all scorers with 21 points, including a trio of triples. Jack Reed chipped in with 15 points and James Ort grabbed 10 boards.

Eagles impress

The Colonel Crawford Eagles are starting their own winning streak as the tournament approaches. Their double-weekend saw a 2-0 record with wins against Ridgedale and non-conference foe Plymouth. Ridgedale is one of the hottest teams in the N10 of late, while Plymouth has some very impressive wins on its resume.

The Eagles traveled to Ridgedale on Friday for a game originally scheduled as a home game, but a leaky Ridgedale roof earlier in the season forced the two schools to trade home game dates. The Eagles continued their tough defensive play to take a 55-39 win. Owen Adams led the Eagles win 15 points, while Hayden Bute chipped in with 13 including eight in the second quarter. The Eagles shot a blazing 23 for 38 from the field, grabbed 28 rebounds and turned the ball over just five times.

Saturday, the Eagles hosted the Plymouth Big Red. The Big Red pushed Buckeye Central to the brink earlier in the season and beat Firelands Conference leader South Central. But they were no match for the Eagles as Colonel Crawford took a 56-38 victory. Bute led all scorers with 17 points, including a 10-point third quarter. Brody Martin chipped in with 15 and Adams added 14.

Bucks back on track

The Buckeye Central Bucks used a double-weekend to get back to their winning ways. After a 5-game win streak, the Bucks dropped two straight. This weekend, they grabbed two wins against Carey and Bucyrus.

The Bucks took a 61-47 victory against Carey on Friday night. Grant Loy has possibly the most impressive performance of any Crawford County player this season with 29 points and 20 rebounds. Max Loy added 11 points and Jacob Shade chipped in with nine points and 11 boards.

On Saturday, the Bucks visited Bucyrus and got more than they bargained for. But they came away with a 66-47 win over their cross-county rival. The Bucks trailed after the first quarter, but a 21-point second quarter propelled the Bucks to victory. Shade led all scorers with 24 points, while Grant Loy added 14 points and 10 boards. Warren Wechter chipped in with 10 points.

Bucyrus freshman Harley Robinson led the Redmen with 14 points and Clinton Carr added 10.
