Boys hoops teams learn tournament opponents

FREMONT -- The OHSAA boys basketball state tournament is just around the corner, and Sunday afternoon area teams found out who they’ll be playing when the ball gets tossed in the air.

The area’s only Division I team, Fremont Ross (6-14 overall), will play Toledo Start (3-15) on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at Toledo Central Catholic High School. The winner will advance to a game two nights later against Lima Senior (18-0). Start defeated Ross earlier this season, 69-50.

In Division II, Oak Harbor (4-13) travels to Lake High School, where the Rockets will face Toledo Rogers (12-5) at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 23. The winner advances to face Rossford (10-9) on Feb. 26.

Also in Division II, Clyde (5-12) will face Lexington (18-2) at Ashland High School on Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. The winner will face Port Clinton (8-10) on Feb. 25.

Bellevue (7-11) opens play in its sectional against Northern Ohio League rival Shelby (10-9). The Whippets defeated the Redmen 70-65 on Jan. 16 and play again on Feb. 16. The sectional meeting will take place on Feb. 23 at Willard High School with the winner advancing to play another NOL member, Sandusky (12-3)

In Division III, Margaretta (5-13) will square off against Clear Fork (4-13) on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at Shelby High School, where the winner meets Galion (11-8) two nights later.

Elsewhere in Division III, Woodmore (4-14) will meet Cardinal Stritch (10-9) at 7 p.m. on Feb. 24, with the winner facing Swanson (16-3) on Feb. 26.

Gibsonburg (12-7) meets Genoa (10-9) at Toledo Bowsher High School on Feb. 26 at 8 p.m.

In Division IV, St. Joseph Central Catholic (3-16) will play Sandusky River League rival St. Wendelin (4-14) on Feb. 26 at 6:15 at Riverdale High School. SJCC defeated St. Wendelin by one point in overtime earlier this season, with a rematch scheduled for Feb. 16.

Old Fort (11-6) will face Vanlue (0-19) at 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 with the winner facing New Riegel (13-4) on Feb. 26 for the sectional championship. In the lower half of the bracket, Lakota (0-19) will face Arlington (12-7) on Feb. 24 at 6:15. Both Old Fort and Lakota will play their games at Findlay High School.
