Watkins boys take Viking Classic title

Spencer Kleeh and Ian Jarvis each won an individual event and were a part of two relay wins to lead Watkins Memorial to the boys team title Saturday during the Viking Classic at New Albany.

Kleeh won the 50-yard freestyle (24.24) and Jarvis the 100 breaststroke (1st, 1:08.75) as the Warriors scored 290 points. They also combined with Jacob Raver and Skylar Chapman to win the 200 medley (1:54.62) and 200 free (1:40.69) relays.

Kleeh also was runner-up in the 100 free (54.51).

Other area top placers in the boys meet were Northridge’s Brian Scott in the 100 backstroke (2nd, 1:07.84); Granville Christian’s C.J. Travis in the 200 free (3rd, 2:02.88) and 100 free (3rd, 56.42); Newark Catholic’s Chris Ouweleen in the 50 free (3rd, 24.64) and Lakewood’s John Hoffman in the 100 butterfly (3rd, 1:01.02).

In the girls meet, Northridge’s Josie Bunstine (1:12.37) and Katelyn Darby (1:16.28) took the top two spots in the 100 breaststroke. Darby also won the 500 free (5:54.58), and Bunstine added a runner-up finish in the 50 free (26.26)

Utica’s Lauren Cummons was the area’s other champion in the 100 back (1st, 1:05.18), and the Northridge 200 free (1:55.73) and Watkins 400 free relays each had third-place finishes (4:31.04).
