CHILLICOTHE – A man connected to an assault of an off-duty Ross County sheriff’s deputy was indicted by a Ross County grand jury Friday.

According to the Ross County Prosecutor’s Office, Todd M. Allen, 24, 7860 High St., Orient, was with male and female subjects May 7 at a quarry on Lost Bridge Road that is owned by the Greenfield Police Department.

Off-duty Deputy Ronnie Johnson, who was fishing with his girlfriend at the location, reportedly saw Allen and the other subjects near a campfire. Johnson told responding authorities that he identified himself as a sheriff’s deputy, showed his identification and advised the group that they were trespassing and to put the fire out and leave.

According to the initial incident report, the group did not leave and Allen and the other male subject, Matthew Allen, 26, argued with Johnson. Johnson then told the men they were under arrest.

Todd and Matthew Allen are alleged to have charged Johnson. According to the prosecutor’s office, Todd held Johnson’s arms behind his back as Matthew repeatedly hit Johnson in the face and head and took Johnson’s firearm and “pistol whipped” him with it.

Johnson suffered a concussion and is being treated for a swollen eye, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Matthew Allen has yet to be indicted.

Todd Allen was indicted on three first-degree felonies for assault, complicity to assault and complicity to aggravated assault.
