Newcastle Custom Homes brings new options to home buyers

NEWARK – There’s a new way to build homes in Licking County.

Jim and Jamie Clouse decided to start their own custom home construction company, Newcastle Custom Homes, bringing modular-style homes to the area.

Jim had spent more than 17 years in the construction industry, working in residential sales, owning and operating his own tile installation business, and as an estimator and project manager for a commercial contractor. But the time finally felt right for him to go out on his own, and he saw a need for something new.

He was introduced to the Ritz-Craft company and spent about six months learning about its process before he decided it was the perfect fit for his soon-to-be business.

“My standards are very high; things have to be just right, and they met that standard,” Jim said. “We wanted to give the community another option to conventional construction.”

Newcastle Custom Homes is the only company offering Ritz-Craft homes in central Ohio, providing more than 500 variations of predesigned homes or options to create a 100 percent customized home. All of the homes are built off-site in modules and then brought to the site to be put together.

This style of building allows for the home to be completed in roughly 12 weeks, and when it arrives, it’s already painted, carpeted and filled with appliances.

It might sound too good to be true, but Jim promises the homes are built to code and undergo all the same inspections as conventionally built homes.

Clients who visit the office and model unit, at 11043 Lambs Lane in Newark, can see many of the style options in use throughout the home. Newcastle Custom Homes also has a small showroom in the model unit, allowing customers to go over hardware, flooring and cabinet options.

An iPad app also can be used to create virtual mock-ups of a client’s future home, with all the specifications they want.

“Everybody knows how they want to live and what’s important to them,” Jamie said. “It’s great because we can make adjustments for people; they just have to keep an open mind. ... They can visually see it all come together, and it saves a lot of buyer’s remorse.”

Newcastle Custom Homes will host a grand opening from 1 to 4 p.m. June 7. Regardless of whether someone is in the market for a new home, Jim and Jamie welcome everyone to the event to walk through the model unit and learn a little about modular home building.

Since opening their doors this spring, the couple have already snagged the attention of a few customers who are creating their new homes. Jim and Jamie are optimistic that the company will do well in Licking County.

“It’s really exciting. I think we get just as excited as our clients do when they choose a home,” Jamie said.
