Oak Harbor earns its second consecutive district crown

Alexa Weis won the 300 hurdles and Oak Harbor was first in two relays as it earned its second consecutive Division II District 1 track crown Friday.

Andrea Cecil, Rebekah Rayburn, Karis DeWalt and Athena Eli won the 4X200 relay while Weis, Rayburn, DeWalt and Eli took the 4X100. Cecil replaced Allie Jett, who the Rockets are optistic will return from a hamstring injury at some point in the postseason.

Rayburn and Ceil also moved on in the long jump, Jordyn Dunn advanced in both throwing events, and Ally Bloomer and Cecil moved on in the high jump. Eli, DeWalt, Annie Quisno and Abby Dornbusch advanced in the 4X400 relay while Dornbusch, Makayla Wagner, Taylor Dunn and Quisno moved on in the 4X800.

"Filling in on the relay is a pleasure," Cecil said. "For jumps, I couldn't seem to find the one great jump."

McKenzie Pluto won the pole vault earlier in the week while Addie Barton was third. Faith Konieczny moved on in the shot put, Dornbusch in the 400, Quisno in the 800 and Weis in the 100 hurdles.

Oak Harbor qualified a girl to regionals in 13 of 17 events.

"It's a stepping stone with the goals," Rockets coach John McKitrick said. "Next week you want to get as many kids to state as possible and this is a necessary step. When kids are focused on the same goal you're stronger. With this many kids in this many events, hopefully we can feed off each other.

"The seniors know when to turn it on."

Port Clinton's Morrisa Mallory won the shot put and was second in the dsicus while Ashtyn Baney was second in the 100 and 200 and fourth in the long jump. Freshman Hannah Mallory (300 hurdles), Miranda Herevia, Morgan Dominguez, Abbey Weldon and Baney (4X100), and Herevia, Hannah Mallory, Weldon and Dominguez (4X200) also advanced.

Baney missed also qualifying in four events last season by 3/4 of an inch.

Genoa's Jordyn Kreager, Cearrah Norwalk, Carly Gose and Lauren Vizi moved on in the 4X100 relay.

Wagner (800), Dominguez (100), Norwalk (200), Isabelle Rospert (high jump), and Herevia, Breanna Lawrence, Hannah Mallory and Katelyn Koebel (4X400) finished fifth.

Tyler Sievert won the 1,600, Cole Weirich advanced in the 100 and Jake Wistinghausen in the 3,200 as Oak Harbor's boys were second. Cody Pfeiffer moved on in the 110 hurdles,

Weirich, Isaiah Jefferson, Thomas Loope and DeShawn Johnson moved on in the 4X100 relay while Jefferson, Johnson, Nick Damron and Weirich advanced in the 4X200. Wistinghausen, Collin Hayslett, Weirich and Sievert advanced in the 4X400.

Port Clinton's Brandon Moore moved on in the 100 and 200. Darius Daniels, Moore, Emerson Lowe and Cole Araguz also qualified to regionals in the 4X100 relay.

"Brandon did a nice job competing in his open races," Redskins coach Seth Benner said. "It would have been easy for him to be discouraged with where he was seeded on Wednesday but he was certainly not going to hang back and watch."

Loope (110 hurdles), Sievert, Mark Bodi, Tim Poiry and Wistinghausen (4X800), Port Clinton's Marcus Hogan (high jump) and Oak Harbor's TJ Lawrence (discus) were fifth.
