Bombs found in car Monday in Zanesville

Staff Report

ZANESVILLE — Zanesville police officers discovered four improvised explosive devices during a traffic stop early Monday morning.

Officers pulled over a man on Luck Avenue for picking up a prostitute, said Eric Waltemire, Zanesville fire chief, and after a search of the car discovered the explosive devices.

The man, of Blue Rock, was charged, according to Public Safety Director Fred Buck, but his identity was not released. Police Chief Ken Miller was unreachable Tuesday.

The Columbus Bomb Squad was called and the four devices were detonated near the Armco Ball Diamonds next to the Muskingum River in Zanesville, Waltemire said. No one was injured.

"Anytime we find devices like that, we bring in the Columbus Bomb Squad," he said.

Of the four devices found, Waltemire said two were charged with gun powder.
