General Sherman Junior High renovates classroom

LANCASTER — On Aug. 18 General Sherman Junior High School hosted an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony for the recently renovated language arts room which includes reading nooks.

The renovation was funded by a grant from the Lancaster Public Educational Foundation.

Community members and organizations, including Mayor Dave Smith, Sandy Love, The Connection, Lancaster Public Education Foundation, and Don’s Furniture, worked together to complete the renovation.

Smith opened the ceremony by recognizing community efforts in literacy and the various programs that will take place in the program rooms, such as the Guest Reader Program and the literacy-based dog therapy, Dog Tales with The Connection.

James Russell from the LPEF cut the ribbon, and Kelly Cassandra, intervention specialist at General Sherman Junior High, presented a plaque of appreciation to members of the LPEF for their support of the various programs in language arts.
