Four Bitchin' Babes to visit the Midland

  • The Four Bitchin' Babes will bring their music and humor to the Midland on Feb. 18.

NEWARK – Take the humor of Joan Rivers and Erma Bombeck, add a sophisticated edge on top of music and comedy and you'll come pretty close to the experience of an evening with the Four Bitchin' Babes.

The quartet of comedic ladies returns to the Midland on Feb. 18 — bringing comedy and music that audience members of all ages can relate with.

"It’s a great night of music and laughs," said Bitchin' Babe member Sally Fingerett. "It’s a comedy show but nothing blue. Just clever, sharp wit, great harmonies — and we look good."

Babes members Debi Smith, Deirdre Flint and Megon McDonough will join Fingerett on stage at The Midland.

Each musician sings, plays multiple instruments and has significant accomplishments that they bring to the group, Fingerett said.

"The total is greater than the sum of its parts," she said.

The Bitchin' Babes started in 1990 with Fingerett and several other founding members. Over the years they've toured the country and released several albums, but their main goal has been the same.

The Babes write their own songs and sing about their experiences in a humorous way — focusing on relationships, raising kids, managing their careers and navigating the world.

"It’s very tongue in cheek," she said.  "We are women of a certain age, and we always write about contemporary social issues."

Each Babe takes a turn singing a song while the other Babes back her up with jokes and quips along the way, Fingerett said.

"When one girl performs, she becomes the broach and we become the velvet," she said. "It’s our job as assistant Babes to make sure they sound good. It’s a good friendship and a good team."

Fingerett emphasized the show is fun for all audiences. Women might want to make a night of it with their girlfriends, but men also are welcome and encouraged to attend.

"If they want to know what women are talking about at lunch, here is their chance. And if they are coming to our show escorting their gal, it’s a very lovely way to get good pointers," she said. "We are a lot of fun for them, as well."
