City seeks grant money for evidence technician vehicle

Staff report

ZANESVILLE - The city will seek $10,211 in grant money to help pay for a new evidence technician vehicle for the Zanesville Police Department, according to Public Safety Director Fred Buck.

The money, which is expected to be received following the city’s filing of an application, must be used toward upgrading police gear or otherwise used for police assistance. If the application is accepted, the money will be granted to the city by the Edward Bryne Memorial Justice Grant Program through the Nation Criminal Justice Association.

Although the grant money will not cover the full cost of a new vehicle, Buck said a reasonably priced used model may be considered. The grant money is expected to come at a time when the city is working on opening a new evidence base in a portion of the former Times Recorder building on Fourth Street.
