MARION - Local police, sheriff's deputies and probation officers worked together to solve a violent home invasion that occurred Tuesday, leading to three arrests, according to Marion police.

Those arrested are Preston Cobb, 19, and two 17-year-olds who were not identified. Municipal court records show a first-degree felony aggravated burglary charge was filed Friday against Cobb, and a June 2 hearing has been set. Felony charges generally are bound over to common pleas court.

Marion Police Maj. Jay McDonald said he thinks additional charges will follow, potentially including felonious assault and aggravated robbery, as well.

In a news release, McDonald said a male senior citizen was assaulted during the incident, which occurred in the 900 block of Merkle Avenue. The man sustained a skull fracture and numerous injuries, and a theft resulted as well. McDonald said what he described as "an impact weapon" was used in the incident, although he would not go into specifics beyond that.

On Thursday, Marion County Adult Probation officers were searching the residence of a probationer in the 700 block of Savannah Drive and found a stolen item from the Tuesday incident. Additional evidence led to the arrest of Cobb and the juveniles.

"This very violent attack luckily did not end with a fatality and the Marion Police Department is grateful that these three perpetrators have been taken off the street," McDonald said in the release.

Municipal court records show Cobb lives at 894 Congress St. and had a previous minor misdemeanor conviction for disorderly conduct in September, although the offense occurred in July.
