SJCC inducting four to Hall of Fame

St. Joseph Central Catholic High School is enshrining four former Crimson Streaks into its athletic Hall of Fame on Sunday, May 3.

Becky (Babione) Cotterman, Class of 2005, holds girls basketball program records for game, season and career scoring, 3-pointers and blocked shots. During her career, the Crimson Streaks went 68-26, won four sectional titles and three district championships. No other team has qualified for the regional tournament three years in a row.

Cotterman also played volleyball and was the team’s two-time MVP and was first team all-Midland Athletic League and all-district her senior season.

Kevin Kaydon, Class of 1996, excelled on the golf course for the Crimson Streaks, leading SJCC to consecutive second-place finishes at the state tournament his freshman and sophomore years. After qualifying for the state tournament as an individual his junior year, the team returned for a fifth-place finish his senior season. Kaydon earned all-state honors twice, first-team as a freshman and second-team as a senior.

Kaydon also played basketball, earning team MVP honors his senior year as he led the Crimson Streaks to a sectional championship.

Eddie and Joe Colon are the first brothers to be inducted into the SJCC Hall of Fame at the same time. The duo began coaching from the inception of the track and field program in 1986 and became co-head coaches in 1990 and led the Crimson Streaks for 11 seasons.

The Colon brothers guided 42 athletes to the state championship meet with 20 individuals and nine relay teams earning all-state honors, two state champions and a team state runner-up finish in 1993.

Eddie Colon, Class of 1973, also served as assistant cross country coach from 1986 to 1997 died in January. Joe Colon, Class of 1984, qualified for the state meet as a cross country meet as a senior.

The induction ceremony will take place May 3, with a social hour at 4 p.m., dinner at 5 and induction at 6. Tickets for the evening at $22 and are available at the high school office.
