Boys Basketball Saturday: Buckeye Central at Wynford

Wynford: A very scrappy bunch. Struggled to find its identity at the beginning of the season but settled into a great defensive ball club. Loves the 1-3-1 trap defense and will extend to full court to get easy buckets. Full of role players who have bought into program. Seven-game win streak proves that.

Alex Crall, 6-0 point guard, 13.6 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 3.4 APG, 36 3-pointers
The head to the defensive snake. Runs show on offense, has deadly step-back 3-point shot. Can change game in an instant. Feeds off his teammates’ energy. Not afraid to put ball on the floor and drive. Do not give him open looks.

Braxton Tea, 5-9 guard, 13.1 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 37 3-pointers
Another streaky shooter who can score in bunches. Loves deep shot and will shoot transition 3. His scoring ignites rest of his team. Very athletic and jumps well so he is a threat to drive and score.

James Ort, 6-4 center, 8.3 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 54% FG
A tenacious rebounder who loves to get put backs. Not a lot of scoring off of the block although he has very good post moves. Mixes up right and left shoulder well and will take advantage of cheating defense.

Buckeye Central: Searching for more depth. Needs to close out games in the fourth quarter. Overall, very athletic and quick. Plays very good half-court defense and very well coached. Will be hungry to grab a couple of wins before tournament time.

Grant Loy, 6-4 guard/forward, 17.5 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 2.7 APG
A nice hybrid and skill set of a guard/forward combo. Can take over a game on either end of the floor with scoring and rebounding. Has a 29 point, 20 rebound performance to his name. Likes 3-point shot but will work inside to get rhythm first.

Jacob Shade, 6-2 forward, 14.9 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 55% FG
Endless effort on glass and in post. Like to go to him until a double comes. Very good passer and will find open player. Relentless on offensive glass. Will get his own misses. Needs to be blocked out on every shot.

Scott Heydinger, 5-7 guard, 5.1 PPG, 5 APG, 75% FT
Runs the show on offense and defense. Causes trouble to opposing guards and loves to create turnovers. Excellent passer and above average rebounder for his height. Likes to find cutters in lane for easy baskets. Can dribble with either hand.

Girls Basketball Saturday: New Riegel at Bucyrus

Bucyrus: Very athletic squad with a lot of speed. Can hurt you inside paint as well as from 3. Seem to be a very tight group who care more about team success than individual numbers. Have a number of players who can hurt you from anywhere.

Kelci Simms, 6-0 post, 18.7 PPG, 11.1 RPG, 52% FG
The most dominant post player in the N10. Likes to turn to the left shoulder and drive baseline but can go right and will make you pay if you try to predict. Fierce rebounder with a lot of offensive skill. One of just five players in Bucyrus history to score 1,000 points. A ball hawk with a lot of ability.

Ashton Hawkins, 5-4 PG, 7.7 PPG, 3.3 APG, 27 3-pointers
The ultimate game manager and changer. Does what team needs. Is prone to hit the big shot of the game to break it open. Can shoot 3 as good as anyone in league. Amazing defensive ability and can shut down opposing guard. Loves to make extra pass.

Gabby Seibert, 5-10 forward, 10.1 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 2.5 APG
Tall and lanky. Extremely athletic, has a high basketball IQ. Can post up or dribble drive off of wing and is very dynamic. Very good defender who is very good at blocking shots. Has an unmatched fierce will to win.

Brooklyn Spears, 5-5 guard, 1.9 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 1.9 APG
Not a huge threat on offense but is team’s best defender. Has held opponent under scoring average in every game this season. Usually picks up full court and causes trouble. Has very quick hands and a nose for the ball. Hardly ever fouls and is a handful for a young guard.

New Riegel: High scoring squad features three players who can impact a game. Very athletic but young and is prone to mistakes. Cause turnovers early to cause frustration and build lead.

Brianna Gillig, 5-9 forward, 29 pts, 13 boards vs. Arcadia, 79% FT
Young star in the making. Can take over a game at drop of a hat and handles pressure well. Great foul shooter. Has a nose for the ball and can rebound with the best. Do not let her get comfortable on offense.

Leah Bouillon, 11pts, 7 asts, 6 reb, 2 steals vs. Arcadia
A Jack-of-all-trades and can literally do it all. Very nice game manager and an excellent passer. Plays the game hard at all times and guards with tenacity. Can change game in an instant if she is left unnoticed.
