Deer gun hunting season opens in northwest Ohio

Staff report

The deer-gun hunting season opened Monday in northwest Ohio.

Hunters brought 18 or 19 deer to Tank’s Meats Inc. in Elmore for processing Monday, including three or four large bucks.

Processors look forward to the season to rekindle relationships and for the potential for new customers.

“It’s part of the year you always look forward to,” Tank’s co-owner Eric Amstutz said. “You see some of the same people year after year. You want to serve them the right way.”

Frobose Meat Locker in Pemberville saw about 12 deer Monday, while Hasselbach Meats Inc. in Fremont had around 10, including a 10-point buck.

“We like to have the deer numbers up to keep us busy through the winter,” Tyler Hasselbach said. “It’s nice to have the deer to keep you busy for the hunters to provide food for their families.”
