Woman charged in Pub bust OK’d for alternative program

GRANVILLE – A woman who pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance March 6 in Granville Mayor’s Court was approved for the Alternative Plea Program on Friday, Village Law Director Michael King said.

The charges stemmed from an arrest on the night of Feb. 19 when a Granville police officer found the woman and three men with a glass jar of marijuana and a marijuana pipe in the kitchen of the Broadway Pub downtown in Granville.

King said the woman admitted the marijuana pipe and the marijuana belonged only to her. As a result, charges of possession of marijuana were dropped against the other three.

Under the Alternative Plea Program, King said the woman would be required to participate in a drug and alcohol program and community service. Upon completion of those requirements, he said the charge would be dropped. If not completed, she would be sentenced in Mayor’s Court since she entered a plea of guilty.

The charges, both minor misdemeanors, were filed after the officer entered the business during a late evening check, according to a police report.

The police report indicated there was no one in the front area of the bar, and after waiting for a moment, the officer went to the kitchen area to ensure the employees were OK.

The police report said the officer observed four people standing around a stove and that one of them, the woman, was smoking a glass pipe.

There also was a small glass jar containing a leafy green substance on a counter in the middle of the four people, the report stated. The officer said all four denied ownership of the glass jar and its contents.
