Clyde man arrested for felony domestic violence

CLYDE – A Clyde man is facing a felony domestic violence charge after allegedly beating a woman and then throwing her belongings outside early Saturday morning.

Daniel G. Salyer, 49, was charged with domestic violence, a felony in the fourth degree, because of a previous charge of domestic violence/menacing.

At 2:48 a.m., Clyde Police Officer Nicholas Smith responded to an anonymous call from a neighbor about a possible domestic dispute at 205 Norris Drive.

Upon arriving, Smith noticed a woman was loading items inside a silver Chevy Lumina in front of the house, with a large pile of clothes and miscellaneous items strewn about the hallway.

Salyer then came outside to throw more items in the pile. He said there was no trouble, they were just arguing. Smith stated Sayler was intoxicated and has been contacted by Clyde police multiple times for domestic incidents.

Smith noted the victim had dried blood around her mouth, “a bruise that had begun to form on her right cheek just below her eye and multiple scratches, bruises and abrasions on her arms that appeared to be defensive wounds.”

Smith asked about Salyer’s shirt, which was ripped in multiple places around the neck, and he responded the victim had done it. When asked if their argument got physical, Salyer said it did but the victim only ripped his shirt and he did not know where her injuries came from.

Salyer was then patted down and handcuffed while Smith talked to the woman.

When questioned, she said Salyer had struck her but wouldn’t elaborate because she didn’t want to get him in more trouble.

“She appeared fearful of him,” Smith’s incident report stated.

The victim was given a protection order, which she signed as a complainant. She also showed officers a large laceration under her knee, which she said she would get checked out. Photographs were taken of her injuries as well as the inside of the apartment.

Salyer denied knowledge of any injuries to the victim and claimed any marks on her arms were burns from her work. He also said the victim struck him and wished to pursue charges against her for destroying his property.

Salyer was transported to Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office jail without incident around 4 a.m., the incident report stated. He is expected to appear in court Monday.
