PORT CLINTON – After taking office in January, first-time state Rep. Steve Kraus, R-Huron, will host office hours at Ida Rupp Public Library.

Kraus will answer any questions constituents have about the district from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

“I really want to get out in the community and have a meet and greet so people can talk to me,” Kraus said. “I want to make myself available.”

Kraus said he expects to be asked questions about job creation and Lake Erie. He said he has been working on getting legislation prepared with the agriculture committee to help preserve the quality of Lake Erie.

He also understands some of his constituents may ask about his potential legal issues as he was indicted by a grand jury and is charged with taking antiques, a shotgun and other items on April 7 from a home in the 600 block of Lightner Road. A neighbor gave Danbury Township police photos of Kraus leaving the home with some of the items in question, according to a Danbury Township police report.

Kraus, who maintains his innocence, said he does not know where the case stands other than he has a jury trial date scheduled for April 15. He said he plans to continue serving as representative during his trial and has not discussed stepping down with the GOP.

“I look forward to being vindicated,” he said. “I am innocent. I am open to whatever they want to talk about.”
