CHILLICOTHE - Joy Comstock is one individual who has become a familar face to many residents at National Church Residences in Chillicothe and admits she enjoys being around people.

Comstock, who works as a dietary aide, was recently named employee of the year by the management staff at National Church Residences. Comstock has been employed at the organization for about two years.

"I was so humbled," Comstock said about receiving the honor.

She was chosen from among a handful of employees after previously being named employee of the month, which gave her the opportunity to be selected for the employee of the year award. Jason Lute, director of food services, described Comstock as a person who is strong-willed and cares for others while going out of her way to help people.

"She still goes above and beyond to do it," Lute said.

Comstock moved from the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific to Chillicothe in 1982 and met her husband overseas when he was a Peace Corps officer when she served as a translator for him. A majority of residents had nominated her as employee of the month, said Lynn Digges, director of marketing and admissions at National Church Residences in Chillicothe.

"She loves meeting and talking with people," Digges said. "Joy is pleasant, courteous and professional when helping residents with the menu or getting their meals."

Lute also said it was evident Comstock was the right person for the top employee award based on the positive feedback residents expressed about her.

"It was compassion within the sheer numbers," Lute said.

Comstock said what she enjoys most about her job is working with the residents, adding that she also sings for them occasionally as well.

"I'm so blessed to have this job," she said. "I just love people, I don't know why. I love people."
