CIRCLEVILLE  — A man was arrested and charged with OVI after reportedly hitting a Chillicothe City Schools bus Monday and attempting to run away from the crash.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at approximately 4:17 p.m., Landon E. Vance, 48, of Circleville, ran a 2001 Toyota 4Runner into the back of a Chillicothe City Schools bus stopped in traffic along U.S. 23 just south of Circleville. Vance reportedly then got out of the car and tried to run from the scene on foot. He was later arrested by Circleville police.

Vance was cited for OVI, fleeing the scene of a crash, driving under suspension, and assured clear distance ahead. He also had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants, according to the patrol.

The bus was carrying nine freshman volleyball players to a game in Circleville. There were no reported injuries, and the bus had "some damage" to the rear bumper, according to the patrol.

Vance told the trooper he was driving himself to the hospital to get his liver checked. The arresting trooper took him to Berger Hospital where he was evaluated and then transported to the Pickaway County Jail.

The patrol said there is a stop light and construction reducing traffic by a lane in the area of U.S. 23 where the crash occurred.
