Oak Harbor installing new utility meters

Submitted

OAK HARBOR — Within the next several weeks, the Village of Oak Harbor will begin installing new water and electric meters in homes and businesses throughout the entire service area. The current meters range in age from just a few years old to over 40 years of being in service.

Installation of the new meters may require representatives of Vanguard Utility Service Inc. and HD Supply to enter homes or businesses if either or both of the meters are located inside. If both the electric and water meters are outside, the representatives will attempt to notify occupants prior to the change out by knocking on the door. If entry to the home or business is required, representatives will make several attempts at scheduling an appointment.

The vendors will establish a local telephone number for residents to call if an appointment needs to be made.

The new meters will coincide with the implementation of a mobile automated meter reading system. This system will increase efficiency of the meter reading process in all facets of data collection, data entry and billing. It will also aid in the recovery of loss revenue due to non-working meters.

Homeowners will be required to make provisions to allow clear access to the water and electric meters. There will be no charge for the typical replacement of a meter. In rare cases, major plumbing changes may be required to facilitate the conversion. The plumbing/wiring changes will be the responsibility of the home owner.

All representatives will be properly identified with a photo identification card displayed on their outer garment. For questions about the project, contact the Village of Oak Harbor at 419-898-5561.
