OAK HARBOR — The Benton-Carroll-Salem Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday for a scheduled work session.

Also, October’s regular board meeting is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 28. Both meetings will be held at the Board of Education Office.

At the board’s last meeting, on Sept. 26, the board approved a resolution calling on Benton-Carroll-Salem Local School District legislative representatives to sponsor and promote override legislation of Governor John Kasich’s veto of PUTPP (public utility tangible personal property) reimbursements for Fiscal Year 2017. The loss of PUTPP reimbursements for the Benton-Carroll-Salem School District will result in the loss of $444,000 in FY 17.

Treasurer Cajon Keeton commented, “We take pride in trying to reinstate these lost funds rather than immediately going to taxpayers to recover the loss.” Keeton encouraged anyone who has any questions about this loss of funding to contact him.

The board approved a number of personnel items. First, the Board accepted the resignations of the following coaches: Eric Parker, Middle School Football Coach, Phil O’Shea, Boys JV Baseball Coach, and Rob Schimmoeller, Head Boys Baseball Coach.

Payment was authorized for Jennifer Giezie, Amy Sandrock and Meghan Dougherty for serving on the district LPDC committee, and the job description for board office secretary was approved. Tamara Mittelhauser was approved as a classroom assistant at Oak Harbor Middle School, a position that is being filled due to a resignation. A one-year contract was approved for Sherri Dario as assistant cook at Oak Harbor High School for a maximum of 2.5 hours per day effective on Sept. 28.

The board accepted a donation of $660 to the Oak Harbor Athletic Department from the Sunday Night Men’s Basketball League for the use of the gym during the summer months.

The board also approved a contract with Fanning Howey Associates of Celina, Ohio to provide consulting services. This group will assist the Board in studying and determining its options for school facilities in the future.
