White Christmas Project underway

MILLERSPORT - The Walnut Township Local School District has begun working on its 44th annual White Christmas Project. Each year, hundreds of dollars that are received through donations are used to purchase food to help families in our community, as well as to purchase fruit baskets for our senior citizens.

The Student Council, the Class of 2016 and the National Honor Society will work together to make the 44th anniversary of White Christmas a success. Any individual, business or organization that would like to make a donation is asked to make checks payable to Millersport High School, with a notation for “White Christmas,” 11850 Lancaster St., Millersport, Ohio, 43046. Your thoughtfulness and generosity are greatly appreciated.

Fire Department Toy Drive

The Millersport Fire Department’s annual toy drive is collecting new toys and monetary donations for less fortunate children in our area. They will accept donations at the Millersport Station and Fairfield Beach Station 24 hours a day. All checks are to be made payable to Walnut Township School with a notation for “White Christmas” as the fire department will be working with the school in conjunction with White Christmas.

Lions Club Sponsors Blood Drive

The Millersport Lions Club will sponsor a Red Cross Blood Drive from 1 to 7 p.m. Dec. 7, in the Lions Clubhouse, 2839 Chautauqua Boulevard, Millersport.

Santa Breakfast And Elf Shelf

The Millersport Lions Club will hold Breakfast with Santa and The Elf Shelf from 8 a.m. until noon Dec. 12, at the Lions Clubhouse, 2839 Chautauqua Blvd., Millersport. The cost of breakfast is $5 for adults with children 3 years of age and younger eating for free. Enjoy breakfast with Santa and then let your children shop in the “Elf Shelf.”

TWIG 13 To Hold Fundraiser

Millersport TWIG 13 of Fairfield Medical Center met Nov. 16, in the fellowship hall of the Millersport United Methodist Church, 2310 Refugee St., Millersport, with 21 members present.

The group will hold a fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 2, at Pizza Cottage at Buckeye Lake, with all proceeds benefiting the patients of Fairfield Medical Center. Fliers are available from members and must be presented at the time the order is placed for dine-in orders.

The next meeting of TWIG 13 will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 21 at the home of Gayle Love. Members were reminded to bring their gifts for the Visiting Nurses.

Walnut Township Board of Education meets

The Walnut Township Local School District Board of Education met Nov. 16. Matt Bunting, consultant with Public Finance Resources, met with the board to review the five-year forecast and notes that was submitted to the Ohio Department of Education in October and to discuss processes that will occur through Fiscal Year 2016.

Approval was given for a “Resolution of Necessity for the Renewal of an Emergency Levy” in the amount of $250,000, to be submitted to the electors of the school district at the election to be held on March 15.

The next regular meeting will at 7 p.m. Dec. 14.

Trustees Regular Meeting

The Walnut Township Trustees met in regular session at 7 p.m. Nov. 17.

The following items of new business were discussed:

•Lieb’s Island Homeowners’ Association concerns with annexation

•IRS letter of concern

•Records and data requested

•All insurance status update, cost history

•Employee compensation and Health Insurance

The next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 1, in the township office.

Millersport Senior Citizens

The Millersport Senior Citizens met Nov. 20, in the Lions Clubhouse. Forty members and guests enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving dinner catered by Clay’s in Hebron.

Jolyn Pugh, director of aging services of the Fairfield County Older Adult Alternatives/ Meals on Wheels, spoke on the various programs available through their agency.

Carolyn Ricketts and John Lutz will serve on the nominating committee for officers for 2016. Shut-ins were remembered. Members signed up for committees for the next year. A motion was approved to purchase books for the third grade classrooms. A motion was approved to donate to Millersport High School’s White Christmas Project. Door prizes were won by Pat Miller, Dr. Anna Whetstone, Linda King, Carol King and Marty Holtz.

The next meeting will be held at noon Dec. 4 in the Lions Clubhouse with the club providing turkey hash for the main entrée.
