At least 6 morning crashes on slick roads

Staff Report

ZANESVILLE – At least six crashes have been reported this morning in Muskingum County.

And although no serious injuries have been reported, law enforcement officials are urging morning commuters to be wary of icy roads.

"They're still very slick," said Capt. Doug Merry of the Zanesville Police Department. "People forget it's four-wheel drive not four-wheel stop. I saw a four-wheel vehicle slide right through an intersection on my way in this morning."

Muskingum County is under a level one snow emergency.

Temperatures are expected to stay well below freezing all day, and road crews are hustling to lay down fresh layers of road salt. Bridges and secondary roads have caused the most wrecks this morning. Two crashes have been reported on rural roads since 7 a.m., county dispatchers said.

Perry County is currently under a level two snow emergency as well. Dispatchers there said no crashes have been reported this morning.
