Police subdue man with taser

Staff report

GIBSONBURG – Village police used a stun gun on a man they were arresting after they reported he was combative when they tried arrest him over the weekend.

Robert Schell, 58, was charged with disorderly conduct with persistence, resisting arrest and possession illegal substances.

He was arrested after officers were called to a home in the 400 block of East Stevenson Street for a report of a dispute, Gibsonburg police Chief Paul Whitaker said.

Officers warned Schell they would stun him if he continued to struggle with them, but he did not comply, Whitaker said.

After officers stunned and subdued the man, they took him to ProMedica Memorial Hospital. After hospital staff checked him out and released him, he was then taken to Sandusky County Jail.

The jail, however, refused to accept him as an inmate because he had medical issues, so Gibsonburg police released him.

The case remains under investigation.
