Canal Days drawing near

Staff report

COSHOCTON – The Canal Days Festival is gearing up for this weekend in Coshocton.

A host of events are scheduled for the two days of the festival, Saturday and Sunday, and Pastor Stan Braxton, of Upper Room Assembly, said he hoped families could enjoy many of the programs together.

"We're not doing this as a religious event," he said. "It's for the community."

The festival will take place on both sides of the intersection of Main and Fourth streets.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by live entertainment in the afternoon and evening and the main parade at 5 p.m.

On Sunday, an antique classic car show will begin at 1 p.m.; registration begins at noon with $10 entry fee.

Both days will feature bounce houses, games and an obstacle course for children with a $2 admission fee.

Braxton, who is originally from Chicago, said he loved the historical significance and heritage of Coshocton and said it is important that events such as the festival continue for the community.

"Each time these things stop, it's a piece of our heritage that we're losing," he said. "I believe in the heritage of our community."

People who want to support Canal Days can donate to P.O. Box 1331, Coshocton, or through the Upper Room Assembly at www.theupperroomag.org.
