LANCASTER -- Fairfield Medical Center began its celebration of its 100th anniversary with a gala Saturday that about 400 people were expected to attend.

While the guests were sure to learn about the hospital's past, President and CEO John "Jack" Janoso also was looking to the future.

"I see us expanding our footprint into the community," he said. "This facility has gotten very large, and it's very complex. Our goal is to bring care closer to our patients' homes, their communities, and to do it in a very well-recognized, high-quality differentiated way. We want to provide service different than other folks in a very uniquely positive way. And we're working hard on determining what that is, how it's going to look and how it's going to feel and where it's going to be delivered."

But while Janoso is looking to the future, he is still mindful of FMC's history, which goes back to 1916.

"First and foremost, it's a privilege for us to have been here for 100 years with the community support that we've had," he said. "But I think it's been a great opportunity for us to look back on the dedication that was brought forth to the community 100 years ago to make sure that this community had the best possible health care even back then when the doors opened. The hospital was doing things that were cutting-edge as far as medical technology and medical capability even back then."

Those at the gala were able to look at some of that early technology and more through interactive exhibits throughout the hospital. FMC employees also learned about the hospital's history through Club Centennial, an exhibit which showcased medical and nonmedical items by decade for the past 100 years.
