The Whites to perform in McConnelsville

McCONNELSVILLE — The Whites will perform at 4 and 8 p.m. Oct. 17 as part of the Ohio Valley Opry show at the Twin City Opera House in McConnelsville.

The Whites are comprised of sisters Sharon and Cheryl and their father Buck. They had several charting country hits in the 1980s including “You Put the Blue in Me,” “Hangin’ Around,” “I Wonder Who’s Holding My Baby Tonight,” “Give Me Back That Old Familiar Feeling” and “Pins and Needles” all making the top 10. Many of their hits were produced by Sharon’s husband, Ricky Skaggs.

The Whites contributed “Keep on the Sunny Side” to the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack, which led to a revival of traditional gospel, folk, blues and country music.

In 2006, the group was awarded the Intentional Bluegrass Music Association’s Distinguished Achievement Award. The Whites were inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. The joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1984.
