WASHINGTON — GOP Sen. Rob Portman raised more than $2 million over the last three months, his campaign announced Monday.

Portman, R-Terrace Park, will report ending the third quarter, which closed Sept. 30, with $11 million in the bank.

The Ohio Republican has easily out-raised his two Democratic foes in the Senate race, which could be one of the most competitive and costly in the nation.

Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland and Cincinnati City Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld are competing for the Democratic nomination and the chance to face Portman in the general election. Neither Strickland nor Sittenfeld has released their fundraising figures yet for the third quarter.

Portman-Strickland too close to call. Sittenfeld distant third.

Portman’s campaign manager, Corry Bliss, said more than 87 percent of the senator’s donors in the third quarter were from Ohio.

"The momentum and enthusiasm behind Rob Portman and the campaign continues to grow across Ohio," said Bliss.
