Port Clinton's Ashley, Meek earn top honors

Emily Ashley was the inaugural recipient of Port Clinton’s outstanding female athlete award.

PORT CLINTON -- Emily Ashley and Shane Meek earned top honors for Port Clinton at its Spring Sports Awards Program.

Commencing with the class of 2015, Port Clinton will select graduating most outstanding male and female athletes. These athletes must be in the top 50 percent of their class, have earned five varsity letters and have been accomplished in their sports.

Nominations are made and winners are selected by the head coaches of the 21 varsity sports.

Ashley and Meek took the inaugural honors. Ashley earned 10 varsity letters; was all-Sandusky Bay Conference and all-district for soccer, basketball and softball; and was conference player of the year for basketball as a senior.

Meek earned six varsity letters. He was all-league, all-district and all-Ohio in swimming and all-league, all-district and SBC player of the year for golf as a senior.

Port Clinton also will now recognize Pride of PCHS athletes — graduating seniors who for four years demonstrated Redskins pride. Competing in a sport each season for four years will be a requirement.

Ashley, Nick Reineck and Allie Schroeder earned Pride of PCHS status this year.

Kenzie Stine and Andrew Cline were recognized by the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations for their sportsmanship, ethics and integrity.

Hannah Weaver and Marcus Hogan earned the Ohio High School Athletic Association Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award. Ashley and Reineck earned the OHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award.

The OHSAA recognized community members Al and Carol Riznikove for their contributions to Port Clinton as photographers.

Trevor Monk was Mr. Redskin while Collin Schmitt was most improved for baseball.

Kate Mueller earned MVP, lowest ERA and highest average while Katelyn Wammes was most improved for softball.

Tristan Auxter was MVP, Ellis Adolph earned the Coach's Award, and Steven Kast was sportsman of the year for tennis. Thomas Keville was most improved and Jacob Koch was Teammate of the Year.

Keegan Lowe and Reineck earned the Four Year Award for boys track. Reineck was the most valuable distance runner, Brandon Moore the most valuable sprinter, and Emerson Lowe the most valuable in field events.

Ashtyn Baney was the most valuable sprinter, Miranda Herevia took the Coach's Award, and Katelyn Koebel was the most valuable distance runner for the girls. Morrisa Mallory was most valuable for field events.
