SANDUSKY TOWNSHIP – Four people were sent to Fremont Memorial Hospital after two separate crashes in the east and westbound lanes on U.S. 20 near the bypass.

The first crash, which involved a motorcycle ridden by Timothy Eads, 57, of Clyde, and a semitrailer, driven by Robert Hill, 49, of Indianapolis, was reported about 2 p.m. in the westbound lane and resulted in the motorcyclist being taken to the hospital for a possible head injury, said Sgt. Angel Burgos, of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

“The driver (of the motorcycle) was taken to Fremont Memorial but was going to be taken by Life Flight to a Toledo hospital for precaution because he wasn’t wearing his helmet,” Burgos said.

Eads was cited for assured clear distance, Trooper Kyle Mayle said. Mayle said Eads' motorcycle fishtailed out of control when he tried to stop to avoid vehicles ahead of him near the bypass. Mayle said Eads was able to avoid two other vehicles before crashing into the semi.

Hill was not injured, Mayle said.

Burgos said that, minutes after the crash in the westbound lanes, a second crash occurred on the eastbound side of U.S. 20.

While eastbound on U.S. 20, the driver of a 2014 Honda Pilot, Ashley Whitt, 31, crashed into a stopped 2010 Honda Element, driven by Eryn Sanders, 29, of Millbury, officials reported.

“(Whitt) will be cited because she was distracted by the other accident (in the westbound lane),” Burgos said.

Both cars were carrying passengers, officials reported, with three people being taken to ProMedica Memorial Hospital.

Susan Bauer, 62, of Elmore, and Paxton Sanders, 1, were passengers in Sanders' vehicle. They were taken to ProMedica Memorial for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

One of two passengers in Whitt's vehicle, Vincent Whitt, 13, of Millbury, also was taken to ProMedica Memorial for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Logan Reese, 13, was not injured, officials said
