Three area teams earn top seeds in OHSAA tourney

Area volleyball and soccer teams were informed of their early postseason fates, Sunday afternoon, as coaches voted on seeding for the 2015 Southeast District OHSAA fall tournament brackets.

Seeds awarded to area volleyball teams and their first round match-ups are as followed:

In Division II, the Unioto Shermans (17-3) earned a first round bye with a top seed and will await the winner of Miami Trace (7-10) and Fairfield Union (3-15), who will play in a sectional quarterfinal.

The Shermans’ first tournament contest will be at home and is slated for Oct. 21 at 6:00 p.m.

Waverly (14-5), also in Divison II, was awarded a No. 4 seed will play host to SCOL champion, No. 5 Chillicothe (13-7), Oct. 21 at 6:00 p.m. The winner of that game will likely move on to face top-seeded Gallia Academy (18-0) in a sectional final.

The No. 2 seeds in Division II are Marietta (15-3) and Circleville (15-3).

The Division II district final is scheduled for Oct. 31 at Southeastern High School.

Moving along to Division III where the SVC champion Adena Warriors (18-2) earned a No. 1 seed. The Warriors will get a first round bye, awaiting to host the winner of Valley (3-12) and Peebles (4-12), Oct. 24 at 4:00 p.m., in a sectional final.

On the same portion of the bracket, Zane Trace (12-7) is the No. 3 seed and will face SVC foe, No. 6, Southeastern (8-10) at home, Oct. 24 at 4:00 p.m. with a sectional title on the line.

Further down the bracket is No. 2 seeded Huntington (16-3), who will have a first round bye and will host the winner of Northwest (3-14) and Eastern Brown (3-14), Oct. 24 at 4:00 p.m., in a sectional final.

The Piketon Redstreaks (10-9) earned a No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 Lynchburg-Clay (10-10) in a sectional final, at home, Oct. 24 at 4:00 p.m.

On Piketon and Huntington’s side of the bracket, the road to a regional appearance runs through top-seeded Alexander (9-7).

Westfall (12-7) got a No. 2 seed and will host a sectional final, Oct. 24 at 4:00 p.m., against the winner of Crooksville (7-11) and New Lexington (1-14).

The Mustangs journey to a second straight regional appearance will have to journey through top-seeded Wheelersburg (14-5). The two’s possible match-up would be in a district final at Waverly High School, Oct. 31 at 1:00 p.m.

In Division IV, Paint Valley (4-12) is a No. 8 seed and will host No. 9 Fairfield (1-20) in a sectional semi-final, Oct. 22 at 6:00 p.m. The winner of that contest will advance to take on top-seeded Portsmouth Notre Dame (15-4).

Glouster Trimble (15-4) also earned a top seed in Division IV.

Seeds awarded to area girls soccer teams and their first round match-ups are as followed:

On the girls side in Division II, the Chillicothe Cavaliers (11-1-1) are sitting pretty with a No. 1 seed. The Cavs will host a sectional final, Oct. 22 at 5:00 p.m., against the winner of Hillsboro (7-3-2) and Washington Court House (2-12).

Waverly (6-7), a No. 6 seed, will travel to No. 3 Marietta (9-3-1) on Oct. 20 at 5:00 p.m, in a sectional semi-final.

The No. 2 seed on Chillicothe and Waverly’s side of the bracket is Jackson (11-2-1).

In Division III, the area team with the highest seed would be No. 5 Southeastern (9-3-2). The Panthers will travel to No. 4 Minford (6-6-2), Oct. 20 at 6:00 p.m. in a sectional title game. The two teams met earlier this season in a contest that ended in a 2-2 tie.

Zane Trace (1-9) was given a No. 8 seed but will host a sectional semi-final contest, Oct. 19 at 6:00 versus No. 9 Chesapeake (2-8-2). The winner of the game will move on to play top-seeded Wheelersburg (8-1-4).

Lynchburg-Clay (10-2-1) was also awarded a top seed in Division III.

Seeds awarded to area boys soccer teams and their first round match-ups are as followed:

On the boys side, Chillicothe (10-2-1) was awarded a No. 2 seed in Division II and will play host to either No. 7 Zane Trace (8-4) or Washington Court House (3-8-2), Oct. 24 at 4:00 p.m., with a sectional title on the line.

The Pioneers will host the Blue Lions, Oct. 19 at 5:00 p.m., in a sectional semi-final.

The top seed on Chillicothe and Zane Trace’s side of the bracket is Athens (12-0).

Also in Division II is Unioto (5-7-1). The No. 8 seeded Shermans will play at home against Miami Trace (4-7-1) in a sectional semi-final, Oct. 19 at 5:00 p.m. The winner of that contest will move on to face top-seeded Circleville (12-0-2), Oct. 24 at 4:00 p.m.

In Division III, Alexander (6-3-2), Wheelersburg (12-1) and Lynchburg-Clay (10-1-3) all earned top seeds.

In the area, No. 4 seeded Southeastern (5-9-2) will play in a sectional semi-final at home against No. 5 Belpre (6-7), Oct. 19 at 5:00 p.m. The winner of that contest will play Alexander.

Adena (2-5-2) is a No. 7 seed and will travel to No. 2 Eastern Brown (10-3), Oct. 19 at 5:00 p.m.

Westfall (1-11-1) was given a No. 6 seed and will make a trip to No. 3 Valley (9-5) while No. 7 Piketon travels to No. 2 Minford (8-4-2). Both of those contests will take place Oct. 19 at 5:00 p..m
