Broken leg after 8-year-old bicyclist hit by car

ZANESVILLE – An 8-year-old boy broke his leg after a car hit him while he was riding his bike on Friday.

The boy was riding his bike west on Ohio Street near Westbourne Avenue when a 20-year-old man driving a sports utility vehicle hit him, according to the crash report from the Zanesville Police Department.

That report indicates that the boy failed to yield to traffic at a stop sign.

Authorities were called to the scene at 6:34 p.m.

Emergency medical services transported the boy to Genesis Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries, according to the report.

The boy's father confirmed that his son broke his leg in multiple places during the crash. The Times Recorder is withholding the man's name to protect the juvenile's identity.

The driver of the SUV was uninjured. The report notes that he was driving 25 mph, the posted speed, at the time of the crash.
