GIBSONBURG – Two juveniles face assault charges after a boy suffered a broken rib during a fight at Williams Park.

According to a police report, two juvenile boys, one 16 years old and one age 15, attacked a 15-year-old boy after he asked the two to stop calling his girlfriend names.

The assailants reportedly slammed the boy’s head on the ground, and one of them also choked the victim.

The victim said that during the altercation one of the juveniles pulled a black knife on him and threatened to stab him.

The victim told police that one of the attackers put a foot on his chest and then stood on him with of all his weight. He told police he pushed the attacker’s foot away and ran into the nearby woods for safety.

The police report said the victim had red marks on his throat and midsection, and he was was taken to an emergency room for treatment on his broken rib, according to the report.

“He (the alleged victim) stated his stomach and chest did hurt and felt like he was going to throw up,” the report said.

Police returned to the park and spoke with the juveniles alleged to have beaten up the boy.

The report says officers searched one of the boys and, in a back pocket, found a black knife that matched the description given by the victim.

The boy with the knife said he used it for fishing and that no threats were made to the victim.

One of the juveniles told officers the fight was not real and the boys were just “playing around.”

While at the scene, officers were told by a witness there was a container of marijuana hidden in a bush. Officers recovered the container but said there was not enough evidence to charged the juveniles with possession or tampering with evidence.
