Staff report

CHILLICOTHE — A Chillicothe man received a net sentence of 35 years to life in connection with sexually related charges on a child from nearly three years ago.

Derek R. Guysinger, of 866 Madison Ave., was found guilty in a jury trial Sept. 25 on three counts of rape, all first-degree felonies, and five counts of gross sexual imposition, all third-degree felonies, and sentenced Monday by Common Pleas Judge Michael Ater.

Ater sentenced Guysinger to 10 years to life on each of the rape counts, to be served concurrently, but then sentenced him to five years on each gross sexual imposition count, which would be served consecutively to each other and also consecutive to the rape sentence. The end result was 35 years to life.

Guysinger also was classified as a Tier III sex offender, meaning that if he is ever released from prison, he must register with the county sheriff every 90 days for life. In addition, he must register any change of residential address, place of employment, or enrollment in a school or institution of higher education.

According to court documents, Guysinger was set for trial Sept. 17 and a jury returned the verdict Sept. 25. Sentencing was postponed until Monday.

Gusyinger was indicted in January in connection with reports that he engaged in sexual conduct with and inappropriately touched a child between June 20, 2012, and December 12, 2012.
