Track: Tri-Valley throwers state-bound

Staff report

PICKERINGTON – Tri-Valley’s Kaylee Antill is no stranger to the state track meet, having made All-Ohio three times.

Now her throwing mate will join her.

Antill placed second in the shot with a throw of 42-7 1/2 and teammate Allison Farmer was third at 41-4 1/4, highlighting area competitors in the first day of the Division I regional meet on Wednesday at Pickerington North.

Antill, an Arizona State signee, trailed only Dublin Coffman’s Oyesade Olatoye, who marked at 47-6.

It is Farmer’s first trip to the outdoor state meet after twice qualifying during indoor competition.

“It was really exciting. It was about a six-inch (personal best) over what I had in the middle of the season,” Farmer said. “My prelims were really rough. I had 37-4 which advanced me to finals, but I wanted to improve. I increased each time.

“It’s relieving, knowing all of my work has paid off," Farmer added. “I have earned a spot in the state meet in D-I.”

In the boys meet, Zanesville’s Leondre Crosby was eighth in the discus (144-0), where it took 150-9 to advance.

Zanesville’s Austin Gillinger was second in his heat and takes the fourth-best time into the finals (:11.37) in the 100, but failed to qualify in the 200.

Gillinger and Crosby also qualified on the 4x100 relay with Ben Kaufman and Alessio Amato after winning their heat in :43.29.

Tri-Valley’s Bryce Goss, Logan Bash, Marcus Hawkins and Jordan Jones qualified in the same event, while Hawkins barely missed in the 400 (:50.04).

In Division III, Rosecrans’ Samantha Swackhammer won her heats to reach the finals in the 100 hurdles (:15.87) and 300 hurdles (:46.88) at the regional at Fairfield Union.

The Bishops’ 4x400 relay of Swackhammer, Abby Hutcheson, Peyton Farrell and Riley Hagy advanced with the sixth-best time (4:12.8).

The 4x200 relay of Farrell, Hutcheson, Hagy and Swackhammer also qualified with the seventh-best time (1:51.7).

For the boys, Crooksville’s 4x100 relay of Tristan Riggs, Tanner Watson, Bruce Thompson and Michael Carter have the fourth-best qualifying time at :45.98.

Rosecrans’ Logan McLaughlin also qualified in the 400 (:54.3).

Remaining finals at both meets will be held on Friday.
